What a B12 shot is, and what it is not

Vitamin B12 is one of the vitamins your body cannot make and cannot store much of. It does the quiet work — red blood cells, nerve function, turning what you eat into usable energy. When it runs low, the symptoms are vague enough to be blamed on everything else: tired in a way sleep does not fix, foggy, pins and needles in the hands or feet, out of breath on stairs that never used to bother you.

An injection goes around the gut entirely. That matters more than it sounds, because the most common reasons for low B12 are absorption problems rather than diet — metformin taken for diabetes, acid reducers taken for years, weight-loss surgery, pernicious anaemia, or simply being over 50. In those cases a tablet can be swallowed faithfully every day and still not get where it needs to go.

What it is not is a weight-loss drug. B12 does not burn fat, and we will not sell it to you as though it does. It is a reasonable thing to have alongside a weight-loss plan — low energy is one of the ordinary reasons people stop showing up for their own plan — but the thing that moves the scale is the medical weight-loss program, not the shot.

People usually come in for a B12 shot when

None of these prove you are low in B12 — a blood test does that, and we can order one. They are simply the reasons people give at the front desk.

Tired in a way that a full night's sleep does not fix
On metformin, or on an acid reducer for a long stretch
Vegetarian or vegan, where B12 is hard to get from food
Over 50, when absorption drops off for most people
Pins and needles, numbness or weakness in the hands or feet
Had weight-loss surgery, or a condition affecting the gut
Already on a weight-loss plan and running flat
Told at some point that your B12 was low and never followed it up

How we do it here

A published price, not a quote

$25 a shot, the same figure for everybody, shown on the site and charged at the desk. No membership, no package of ten you have to buy first, and no consultation fee to reach it.

Given by our clinical team, in a medical office

This is a doctor's office, not a counter at the back of a salon. Your shot is given by our licensed clinical team — nurse practitioners working under the supervision of Dr. Keisha Bryant, MD, or Dr. Bryant herself — and it goes in your chart like anything else we do. A brief medical screen is included with every visit.

We will check the level if it is worth checking

If your tiredness has been going on, or you are on metformin, or something in your history points at it, say so — bloodwork is a better answer than a standing weekly shot. We would rather find the cause than sell you a subscription to the symptom.

Add it to a visit you are already having

If you are coming in for a physical, a weight-loss check-in or anything else, ask for the shot at the same appointment rather than making a second trip.

What your first visit looks like

Step 01

Pick a time, or just ring

Book the B12 shot online and choose a slot, Monday to Saturday 9 to 5. If you would rather sort it on the phone, call (929) 547-9616 and the desk will find you a time.

Step 02

Come to 205-15 Hollis Avenue

St Albans, NY 11412, a few minutes from Jamaica, Hollis, Cambria Heights, Springfield Gardens, Queens Village, Laurelton and Rosedale. Bring ID and a list of anything you take; you do not need a referral. A brief medical screen is included before the shot is given.

Step 03

In, shot, out

About fifteen minutes including the paperwork. You can drive, go back to work, and go to the gym the same day. If you want to come back on a schedule, we will tell you what makes sense rather than signing you up to one.

Insurance & cash pay

We accept many major insurance plans for primary care. Because coverage changes quickly, call (929) 547-9616 with your card and we’ll verify in-network status and copay in about 30 seconds. Uninsured? New-patient cash-pay visits start at $120 and include the exam and a written plan; HSA / FSA accepted. More on our primary care page and visit page.
